I was commissioned to do an installation piece based on the poem, "Sechita," from "i found god in myself", celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ntozake Shange's choreopoem, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf," curated by Souleo at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

The emotional power of the poem speaks to me about gender, race, hopes, and limitations experienced through out history.
