Days After I
30"h x 22 ½"w
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, I was compelled to ask the technician for a handful of colorful stickers that were used to mark the nipples prior to imaging. I wondered if these stickers were purposefully bright and cheery so as to distract from this procedure and its possible consequences. Reflecting on this in my studio, I began to paste the stickers on my breast as the techs had done at the radiology center. But instead of simply marking the nipple, I found this exercise more akin to sculpting my body. The stickers became a means to map my own body, and Days After is the diagram of this journey.
